Crazy Quilt Heart Completed

Finally!  Completed another CQ project.  This one didn't turn out at all the way I had envisioned.  Sometimes you just have to experiment until it feels right.

I started this mostly to experiment with complimentary color and to try some new seam treatments.  It was going to be a pillow.

I started off making it a square pillow with the heart stitched on and trim added to the edges of the heart.  It looked okay but then I thought it might be prettier as a heart shaped pillow with a gathered ruffle.  I stitched the heart shape and backing together but when the stuffing was added the shape looked really odd to me.  I removed the stuffing and changed the shape a bit.  Hearts are hard for me.  I re-stuffed it but still was not happy with it.  I took out the stuffing and stitched some batting into the heart shape.  This was better...until I added the stuffing.  I removed most of the stuffing and decided instead of a pillow this would be a hanging piece.

The shape still looked odd to me so i found this beaded trim in my stash and hand-stitched it all around the edge.  Better.  I then added the trim and was pretty satisfied with it until I hung it up.  I'm still not crazy about the shape as it looks somewhat non-symmetrical.  I don't know if it is the trim in the center that slopes of if the stuffing may be uneven.

Not my favorite piece, but it is finally finished (at least for now).  I have to move on!  I have stitched a couple of hearts in the past.  One of them turned out good and I thought this was the same pattern.  Apparently not!  This heart looked fine laid out flat but stuffing it distorted the shape.  If I find a shape that works well for stuffing I will certainly hang onto it.  Then again I may never stitch another heart.  Can you tell I'm a bit discouraged and tired of working on this?

Connie you have really put your heart into this heart. I think it looks beautiful...in colors, shape and stitchery. Maybe your inner critic is being too harsh on you. Happy Hearts to you dear...

I think it looks lovely...perhaps there is somewhat of an optical illusion on the lower right hand side just because of the way the seams are angled???

Connie, your heart is absolutely beautiful! Hearts are a challenge to stuff. I've made tons of them! But in my personal opinion, yours is stunning!
