I now have all of the seams stitched on my super-size CQ block. I have had a couple of great suggestions to finish off the center area but have now yet had a chance to play around. I wanted to share what I had done so far and ask for more opinions.
Should I:
- leave it as is?
- embroider a large flower and leaves in the center?
- add a word or phrase in the ivory patch?
- add lace?
- stitch a pattern on ivory patch?
- add beading and/or more embellishment?
- cover ivory patch?
- other ideas/thoughts?
Below are just some closeups...

Connie...your quilt is simply beautiful! You have been busy lately! I really do love it. It would be pretty if you embroidered a little something on the ivory piece...just to personalize it a bit. Let us know what you do!

Jane
I vote for 2 and 6! I think the center piece is too strong if left plain. :-D
Thanks Melissa and Jane. Once I have done something with it I will post it. Especially looking at the photo of the block that center piece does look pretty stark.
That piece does stand out. I think it's brightness overshadows the other wonderful fabrics and your fine stitchwork. I think a piece of organza or other filmy fabric in a warm tone would counteract the bright, and then you could add something more if you wished. Just a thought.....
Your seam stitches are beautiful. The ivory really is begging for embellishment. A beautiful butterfly which has been attracted by the lovely florals? Audition some things and one of them will stand out as just right. Blissful Stitching...
your seam treatments look wonderful Connie but I feel the centre block needs something so it does not stand out quite so much, what that something is however I am not sure of.
I like the idea of overlaying it with either organza or lace in a warm tone. If you are using organza, add some motif stitched on top. Love the colour scheme.
I agree, you can't leave it, that's for sure! And it should be something worthy of the centre square, so to speak. I've seen you paint or dye lace before. I bet something like that would look great, maybe with a little extra stitching on top.
A sheer print would also look great, but I think a sheer solid colour might fall flat.
Have fun!
I'm curious to know if this block is part of a series and, if so, will each of them have an ivory section? If that's the case, I would love to see an inspirational quote embroidered in each of the ivory sections. The words would then stand out nicely. Then perhaps an additional seam treatment around it?
