Block 3 of Small Quilt - Vanity

Block 3 for my small Victorian quilt is completed (I think, at least for now).  As you can see, the theme is Vanity.  I so enjoyed doing this one.

I made the complete glove so even the fingers would separate.  The stitching along the raw edges is a bit tattered so I would probably figure out an alternative way of making it if I were to do this again - maybe a different material.  Mistake I made was placing it on the light butter yellow patch because it got a little lost.  I embroidered some darker lace which is supposed to look like a fancy handkerchief lying under the glove.  I balanced the block even more by adding a small corsage of red roses at the glove's fingertips.

I also beaded the small 'pearl' necklace that is wrapping over the glove.

The hand mirror in the lower left is an image of an antique part of a dresser set printed onto printable fabric and then stitched in place.

I beaded the tiny purse using 15º seed beads in black and burgundy.  It is lined with fabric, attached along the outer edges and open at the top with a tiny antique gold bead for the clasp.  I enjoyed stitching the bag so much that I will definitely be creating another for the doll trunk.

Cameos were very popular in Victorian times, so I have added one to this block.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing it.  Three blocks down, nine to go!

Beautiful! You put in a lot of detail. I remember my mother had gloves with three stripes on the back. I also recognize the mirror, don't know from where though.

Lovely! I really do think cameos are coming back 'in' because I've been seeing them everywhere lately.

Your details are what make this block extraordinary. The glove, hankie, cameo, roses, hand mirror and the little beaded purse which you could put a little note into are just amazing. Fabulous stitching dear...
