Below is my inspiration piece of lace edging. Of course the exact same look cannot be created using beads, but I feel the beaded version is close enough.
I think I have mentioned how my interest in lace has grown these past few months. I have developed quite an interest in it and as I was stitching this I thought about how lace has developed, where did it get its start and how it has evolved. Handmade lace can't be beat but it still amazes me there are machines that can produce some beautiful laces. This one is a pretty common scalloped lace.
Here are the concept piece and my beaded version together. The scale worked out very well and I will definitely find a use for this beading stitch. I actually think creating some of these laces separate from fabric might be easier (emphasize "might be"), but my challenge to myself is to improve my bead embroidery skills while studying the construction of lace. I am enjoying this journey although I feel like quite an amateur compared to the other skilled beaders taking part in this journal project.

That has made a very pretty edging. I was born in a major lace making city and worked for a lace company for some time - all machine made though. My great great grandfather was also in the lace manufacturing business way back. I wish I'd still got his design books! Making hand-made lace as a hobby has become very popular over here but I've never tried it. I'm looking forward to your next piece.
