TAST 2012 - Tag 3, Feather Stitch

Made it through week 3. This week was to be the Feather stitch.

As you know I have decided to include a color study of sorts as I work my way through these weekly stitch challenges. For this week I chose blue, white and silver which I thought was a good color palette for January. Blue is one of the most popular 'favorite colors' of all. My favorite is different shades of lavender, from the lightest shade all the way to the plums. What is your favorite? Are you one of the many that like blue?

I decided I needed to have a few bare trees and some snowflakes for my tag to fit the color story and the season. I don't know if you can see the silver very well in some of the trees, but I did add a couple of threads to my lightest blue floss to add a little frost. The rick rack along the bottom already had the silver threads running through the white trim, so it was perfect for this border. The narrow rick rack through the center of the tag was held in place using a blue feather stitch.

I of course had to include a couple of feathers using the 'feather' stitch. Don't worry, I'm not offended if you looked at them and thought they were leaves. I played around with a couple variations of the stitch which I'm sure will be right for some future project. I loved the stitch being used for texture or fill. As you can see I worked it from white (beginning with overlapping feather stitches) and did a gradient to my darkest blue.

I wish I would have had more time to play with the possibilities of this stitch, but I have other deadlines looming. We only have 49 stitches to go!

This is just lovely...and making the tags is so clever. I wish I had thought of it... Gerry K.

Great colour combination, sort of a winter feel. Blue is one of the colours I so seldom stitch with!

Gotta try using the feather stitch as a filler; thanks for the idea. I checked your earlier post, and really really like where you moved that key! Red's my favorite color and all related shades......

Great use of the feather stitch who would have thought there would be so many variations!
