That's How I'm Wired

It has been pretty quiet here in blogland. I know several bloggers are having problems posting comments and uploading images. I have had problems posting comments myself. I hope that is the reason I'm hardly getting any comments and that it isn't because I'm boring you. gulp!

I had such a nice Memorial Day weekend. I spent one day re-wiring an old antique floor lamp. I bought it several years ago and used it a lot. Then one day I pulled the chain to turn on a light and sparks flew. I decided I probably needed to take care of that problem before I used the lamp again. I pulled out the old wiring and used 18 gauge wire wrapped and taped to fish the new line through. It was a really tight fit. I got it through and then had to splice it so it separated for two bulbs. It was fairly easy. One side has a groove and the other is smooth, so you just splice the grooved sections together and the smooth sections together.

As I said, I bought this lamp at a sale several years ago and think I paid $5.00 for it. I had to totally reconstruct the shade. I used ribbon and trims for this.

I even sewed on every single bead forming the fringe around the base of the shade. It took some time, but I'm pleased with it. I'm not sure why I didn't just buy ready made beaded fringe?

So now I can cross that project off my list!

Sunday before Memorial Day my daughter, three granddaughters and my mom and I went to place flowers on the graves of loved ones who have passed on. We have done this together since the twins were babies and it has become a tradition we all look forward to. The first year we did this together my oldest granddaughter who was about 4 years old at the time used to pull flowers from our vases to place on the headstones that had no flowers. She said they needed some flowers. She even started pulling dandelions to place on the graves.

We always have so much fun in the car on the way there and back. It is nearly an hour away. Of course we have to stop for food on the way home. This will always be a special memory for me. Mom turns 87 next week and I know it has meant a lot to her as well. She doesn't act her age though. She acts more like a 60 year old kid!

Such a beautiful lamp! The beaded trim is exactly right for it. I like your tradition with your family too - hopefully it will carry on into the generations to come.

I can't believe you rewired the lamp...I can barely change a bulb! Great job, the lamp is pretty!

Those will be wonderful memories to have and such a thoughtful thing to do.
The lamp is gorgeous and the shade OMG how beautiful is that. All that work but what a wonderful shade.
