Crazy Quilt Upholstery Sample Pillow Completed

Another project completed and it is still January!  This pillow was created using some upholstery samples I purchased for maybe 50 cents from Hancock Fabrics.  I stated this was nearly complete in January 2013 (ha ha).  My how time flies.  Here is the link to that post.  Sometimes these things just have to simmer awhile.  It helps to just look at them periodically and mull ideas over in your head.  Wouldn't you agree?

I like the two different looks the pillow takes on depending whether it is sitting on my antique 'earthy' rocker or on my burgundy Victorian chair.  I'm sure it is the colors surrounding it that gives it the different feel.  Adding it to a blue chair or in a white or beige surrounding would also add different perspectives.

Here are some closeups if you are interested.  This single block is about the same size as my entire mini quilt.  I needed a break from the close work.  I do that with my paintings every once in awhile just to loosen up.

The butterfly, some blue flower groupings, and large flower with leaves are cut out from the upholstery floral fabric scraps.  I backed those pieces with batting and muslin stitching around some of the details through all layers.  I pinked around the icon of each and attached each to the pillow using a blanket stitch.  On the butterfly I added a lacy edge also using the buttonhole stitch.  I had some scraps of lace I had dyed that added needed texture and broke up the solid ivory block in the center of the pillow.

Below are some works in progress (WIPs) or unfinished objects (UFOs), whichever you want to call them.

I have changed direction with my BJP and between projects or on the go have been hand stitching binding on the edges.  Sometimes I wonder why I do this to myself but I'm usually happy with things when I'm done.

I am so anxious to move on to some other things but as I said before, my word is FOCUS and I am determined to get the unfinished projects completed before I allow myself to get distracted.

Lovely pillow using home dec fabric bits. Your CQ stitching really pulls it all together and gives it life. Focus is exactly what you have done to acknowledge your WIPs or UFOs. Congratulations on being able to accomplish and move forward. Joyful Creating...

Wow! this turned out so beautiful Connie, I love the butterfly! I have a ton of upholstery samples I got from my sister when she worked in a fabric store. I would never have thought to do something like this!
