I bet some of you were thinking I forgot, or put off, the July beading challenge. I actually worked on it heading to Colorado, while there and in the car on the way home. I finished most of it in that time. I found the pattern for this in the April 2010 issue of Bead and Button.
The photo in Bead and Button which got my attention and made me want to try this project is shown below.The instructions called for 4 mm fire polished beads where I used the 4mm cube (square) beads because I didn't have enough of the others on hand. I know! With all the beads in my studio there weren't enough to do this project! Anyway, this simple change gives the bracelet a totally different feel.
I still need to add some sort of clasp to the ends. I will as soon as I find the perfect thing. I am thinking maybe a decorative button of some sort so that when it gets worked to the front of my wrist (as it inevitably does) it will still look pretty. I did buy some really pretty blue ice colored bicones while in Colorado and plan to make up a bracelet using those (sometime).
Now for the 'pop' quiz (hint, hint): What are the necklaces shown below made of?
Give up yet? They are Pop Beads!!! I thought they were the coolest thing when I was growing up. These are the genuine thing. The reproductions ones they make now just don't have the same feel and scent. Those of you who remember Pop Beads know exactly what I'm talking about. The rest of you probably just think I'm a little crazy and you could be right. lol
and...as if I don't have enough things sitting around waiting to become part of something else, this little piece of Wasp nest (a bit smaller than the diameter of a quarter) literally fell into my hands when I picked up the mail recently. I've coated it with Diamond Glaze and now I think I will paint it an ivory color and sprinkle some really fine glitter on it. Then, (sorry, that's as far as I've gotten with my idea...)

Pretty bracelet! I like the look of the cubes in there, they make the look a little less dressy. Perfect with jeans and a pretty top. :-) (Just starting to inch my way toward beading... uh, oh!)

Hi Connie, it's my first time at your blog. Yes I remember pop beads, though I haven't thought of them at all since I was a kid. And I get what you mean about the scent and feel of them.
I have done a bit of beading, but nothing so beautiful as the bracelet you show above. I would love to do more, but might have to wait till I retire! I'll be back here to get inspired in that direction!
I remember pop beads - I loved mucking around with them when I was young! And I love your beadwork - the piece you just did is stunning. I have never thought of using decorative buttons for clasps but that's a great idea - I have the same issue with things rolling around me too, whether it's a bracelet or necklace doesn't matter, the clasp always ends up front and centre!
I had pop bead too! Gosh, I haven't thought of those in a while. I love the bracelets, beadwork is always amazing to me. The wasp nest is interesting, Ihave a small one and never thought of glittering it up in any way,,your very inventive Connie. I got inturrupted so many times this morning, when all I wanted to do was read your blog, I look forward to revisiting and seeing what magic you are creating.
