TAST - Pistil Stitch and Re-designed Jewelry

Well, last week was catch-up week, so that gave you all a bread from my TAST postings ;-D
This week's stitch is Pistil.  This was my first attempt at this stitch, so I do have some practicing to do, but I do like the stitch and can see its usefulness for certain applications.  I was also having purple withdrawal so...

I think I may be burning out on trees because my heart just didn't seem to be in it, but I did manage to eek one out.  I also "played" a bit and below is the border and something-something else I also stitched.  On the border I experimented a bit with different angles and the overlap so the border isn't uniform...honest, it was on purpose.

It seems to me you basically can get this same effect (in the majority of instances) by using the straight stitch with a French knot on the end.  I know - pretty exciting stuff *giggle*.

I also re-designed the necklace I posted earlier and made three bracelets for a custom order.  The pendant is removable.  I was asked to create a crystal necklace using her grandmother's crystals and she referenced one of my other necklaces at a shop as something she liked - simple but elegant.  At the top is one of the bracelets with customer's grandmother's crystals and some pearls.  Below are two other bracelets I re-designed for her.  (There were a lot of crystals).

I find it really tough to be creative when doing custom work, especially when I can't get a read on the customer and said customer doesn't really seem sure of what she wants.  I get the sense she isn't a person who loves crystals but rather prefers warm, earthy tones.  I can't get up my mojo to be really creative when designing for someone else either.  When I just play and there are no expectations the creativity just seems to flow.  How do you all handle doing custom work?  How do you get past the uncertainty?

Hi Connie: As for custom work I find it very constricting and am never confident how it will be received by the purchaser. I found the same to be true when I used to sew for others. Too demanding and never appreciated or compensated enough was how I felt. Your pieces are beautiful in spite of the limitations of the crystals. Blissful Creating...

I am right there with you on being uncertain when creating for a custom order. Despite my having made over 30 of my recycled denim jackets I still wonder if people are truly happy with them. I much prefer just playing around and having fun.

That's a cute stitch, you've done so many, how many more are there? Oooh, I think it turned out really pretty, too. I've done custom murals for people's walls and it's always stressful. I resorted to sketching and painting it in miniature to make sure it was really what the customer wanted, but it was still crazy..I always worried I would finish and they'd say," That's not what I wanted". I always enjoy painting my own walls more!

Your tree reminds me a little of the "purple pansy" redbud we used to have in our yard. I really like the border you did with the stitch; very creative! I've not ever done any custom work but feel the same way when I give handmade gifts.

Thank you friends for the nice comments. I'm glad I'm not alone on the insecurity of creating for others. It is much more fun and less limiting when we are able to just play and see what happens. I guess creating gifts can give you the same feeling of wondering if the other person is happy with what you created. Scarlett, there will be a total of 52stitches/tags. I have completed 35to date. One of those was not part of the 52, so there are 18 left (if I did my math right). I must admit I am losing steam and excitement in doing them, but will try to keep plugging away.
